The list includes the historic Royal Liverpool Golf Club, home of the 2006 Open Championship - the 11th time on which this most prestigeous competition has been held on Wirral.
The Royal Liverpool course was built in 1869 and is the oldest of the seaside
courses in England, apart from
Westward Ho! in Devon, which was established a few years earlier. The course
is located next to the River Dee and offers views of the Welsh Mountains across
the estuary.
As well as Royal Liverpool, Heswall and Caldy Golf Clubs are also located adjacent to the River Dee, with views over the Estuary to Wales. Wallasey Golf Club is another coastal course, whose former members include Dr Frank Stableford, inventor of the scoring system that bears his name.
Inland courses include Eastham Lodge, Wirral Ladies, Prenton and Bidston.
Municipal courses include Arrowe Park, Brackenwood, Hoylake and the nine hole Warren course in Wallasey.
